Automotive Transmission Housing Die Casting and CNC Finishing
Housing Design
Automotive transmission housing manufacturing uses A380 or ADC12 aluminum. Weight 5-20kg. Wall thickness 2.5-4mm with reinforcing ribs. Bearing bores H7, seal surfaces Ra 1.6. IATF 16949 quality system required.
Draft angles 1-2°. Core pulls for internal oil passages. Machined surfaces: bearing bores, seal surfaces and mounting flanges.
| Parameter | Value | Tolerance |
|---|---|---|
| Material | A380/ADC12 | ±0.5mm casting |
| Wall | 2.5-4mm | ±0.3mm |
| Bearing Bore | CNC finish | H7 |
| Seal Surface | CNC finish | Ra 1.6 |
Die Casting Process
Cold chamber with 2,000-4,000T clamp. Injection 500-1,000 bar. Cycle 60-120s. Vacuum assist for porosity reduction. H13 tool steel, 50,000-100,000 cycle life. Shot curve monitoring for consistent fill.
Die temperature control ±10°C. Ladle pour volume ±0.5%. Process parameter monitoring for Cp/Cpk.
| Parameter | Value | Monitoring |
|---|---|---|
| Clamp Force | 2,000-4,000T | Daily check |
| Injection | 500-1,000 bar | Shot curve |
| Cycle Time | 60-120s | PLC tracking |
| Die Temp | 200-300°C | Thermocouple |
CNC Finishing and Testing
CNC of bearing bores, seal surfaces and mounting faces. Bearing bore H7 tolerance. Seal surface Ra 1.6. 100% air decay leak test at 1.5 bar, acceptance <5cc/min. Dimensional CMM sampling per batch.
Pressure test for oil passages. Surface finish verification for seal surfaces. Bolt hole thread inspection.
