USB Connector High-Speed Stamping and Plating Guide

USB Connector Types

USB connector manufacturing produces Type-A (4 contacts, 2.0mm pitch), Type-C (24 contacts, 0.5mm pitch), micro and mini formats. Materials: phosphor bronze C5191 for spring contacts, brass C2680 for shells.

Durability: 10,000 cycles minimum for Type-C, 20,000 for ruggedized. Gold flash 0.05-0.1μm on contact area for corrosion resistance.

Stamping Process

High-speed stamping at 200-600 SPM. Progressive dies with 20-40 stations. Strip thickness 0.1-0.3mm for contacts. Carbide dies for 10M+ stroke life. In-die sensing for process monitoring.

Burr control under 0.03mm. Contact form verification with in-line vision system. Reel-to-reel selective gold plating.

Assembly and Test

Terminal insertion into molded housing. Shield solder or crimp. Electrical tests: contact resistance (<30mΩ), insulation (>100MΩ), dielectric (500VAC), VSWR for high-speed. ESD control throughout assembly.

Visual inspection for terminal alignment. Pull force for terminal retention. Mating force measurement.
