Smartphone Camera Module MIM Manufacturing and Assembly
Camera Module Components
Smartphone camera module manufacturing requires micron-level precision. MIM produces lens barrels with internal threads and alignment features. Sensor baseplates use CNC aluminum. IR filter frames from stainless steel MIM.
Thermal stability: components maintain alignment from -20°C to 85°C for autofocus consistency.
| Component | Material | Process | Tolerance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lens Barrel | SS 420 | MIM | ±5μm |
| Sensor Base | Al 6061 | CNC | ±10μm |
| IR Filter Frame | SS 304 | MIM | ±15μm |
| Shutter | Steel | Stamping | ±20μm |
MIM Advantages
MIM lens barrels with internal threads (M6-M12) and alignment features. Sintered density >97% for thermal stability. Post-sintering reaming for lens seat achieves ±10μm. Black oxidation for light absorption.
MIM produces complex baffle and groove geometries impossible with conventional machining. Multiple cavities for production efficiency.
| Feature | MIM Capability | Post Process |
|---|---|---|
| Internal Thread | Net shape | Tapping |
| Lens Seat | ±10μm | Reaming |
| Alignment Pins | ±15μm | None |
| Light Baffle | Internal grooves | Molded |
Assembly and Testing
Cleanroom (Class 10,000) assembly. Active alignment for lens-sensor positioning with ±5μm centering accuracy. MTF testing verifies optical performance. Drop test: 1.5m on concrete.
Temperature cycle: -20°C to 85°C for focus shift verification. Particle inspection under magnification.
